Getting Our (Arcade) Game On in Portland, Oregon

Last week, we finally got to enjoy the night we’d all been waiting for: the GAME ON Party at Ground Kontrol in Portland. The Google Portland community team had long been planning this night as a reward for our most loyal local experts and biggest fans of Google Places.

We reserved the famous arcade bar for our very own private party where all the games were set to free play (no quarters—awesome!). With about 60 people and their plus ones, it was a perfect-sized crowd to get enough gaming in, while still making new connections with locals and joining in on fun conversations about pinball, PAC-MAN and Dance Dance Revolution.

Above, the folks at Ground Kontrol prepared a special menu just for our Google Places party, and a user rates and reviews local Portland spots using their Android-powered phone.

Ground Kontrol prepared a special menu just for this event. All who joined got an appetizer ticket and a drink ticket. For our attendees who had achieved 100+ review status, they also got a t-shirt. We even had 10 people who had done 200+ reviews, and they got t-shirts, snacks, drinks and a gift certificate to Ground Kontrol to use at a later date.

Above, a Google Places power user shows off his new tee and the symbol all us gamers know and love.

A big thanks to everyone who came out. If you missed us, make sure you’re signed up for our newsletter and actively reviewing on Google Places! The more great reviews you share, the better your odds at being at our next brewery tour, pizza party or happy hour tweet-up. Also, stay in touch with us on Twitter and Facebook for all our Google Portland news!
