I find that google places reviews and ratings are completely ruined by deceitful restaurant/bar owners posting numerous fake reviews of their own place, making it impossible to find a place that is genuinely popular. PLEASE can you do something to stop this review/rating spam, to make the google places service a usable one, because as it stands I just give up and use something like Foursquare instead.

Great video, great product, but all I remember is your font choice. Really? Comic Sans?

Hey David --

It's actually not comic sans, but a font called "Chalkboard" -- if you've got the program Motion, you can check it out. I thought it fit the theme of teaching, school, etc.

Glad you liked the video!

Hi Vanessa,

Looking forward to more from the professor as I have a ton of questions. I'm recommending to all my small biz clients getting the most out of places. Two biggies are; some listings only appear in maps; whats the diff? I've created qr code for some to attract reviews on their page and I'd like to reduce the number of hoops to jump through in order to rate and review. Where is the best place for answers?

The reviews system is an opportunity for great businesses to shine and attract more customers. We believe we’ve addressed many concerns regarding the detection of illegitimate reviews, but having said that we realize there is always more work to do. That’s why we’re constantly working on new ways to improve the system. These include improving our ability to detect and handle abuse, the way we communicate with business owners, and their ability to respond to reviews. We need to balance the need to remove spammy reviews versus the risk of accidentally removing legitimate, valuable feedback - whether that’s positive or negative. In addition, users can use the Flag as Inappropriate link on the Place page ( to let us know if a review violates our posting guidelines (
