Being just 15 miles from the border, San Diego is host to some of the best Mexican restaurants in the country, so it’s no surprise that celebrating Taco Tuesday has been a time-honored tradition for many San Diegans. So starting a couple weeks ago, we here at Google Places wanted to celebrate by offering some of our top reviewers free tacos every Tuesday at different locations each week this summer.
For the last two weeks, we’ve been hitting up El Camino in Little Italy as our Taco Tuesday location, since it’s both a local favorite and has a really fun atmosphere. Tonight, we’ll be heading over to Pokez in East Village, another San Diego staple that also offers delicious vegan options.
To top off all these delicious tacos, what’s the best icing on the cake to a beautiful sunny San Diego day? Froyo! It’s no surprise that frozen yogurt places have been popping up everywhere the last few years, offering a healthy (and sometimes not-so-healthy) way to cool off. So we’ve also started hosting free Froyo Thursdays at various spots, including Yogurtland in Little Italy and Yogurt Farm in Ocean Beach. We’ll announce this week’s location tomorrow via Twitter at @GoogleSanDiego.
So how can you get in on the action? It’s easy, just log on to Google Places, write at least five reviews of your favorite San Diego businesses, then come on in to meet me, your San Diego community manager Megan, to claim your free tacos or cup of froyo! The user with the most reviews will win a $25 gift certificate to that participating location. Laura (below, right) was our first lucky winner with more than 75 reviews and counting:
We want everyone to be able to participate! If you have any questions or need help using Google Places on your computer or smartphone, I’ll will be there with my laptop to show you step-by-step how to rate & review, get great recommendations in your searches and share your favorite places with friends.
And now I want to hear from you: Where should we host the next Taco Tuesday and Froyo Thursday? Tweet us your suggestion to @GoogleSanDiego and we’ll come to you! We’ve got plenty more community activities in the works for our top reviewers, so keep letting the world know through your Places reviews why our local businesses here in San Diego make this America’s Finest City!
